12:18a Mark Owings Jan. 3, 1945-Dec. 30, 2009 Mark Owings, nominated for a Hugo for The Science Fantasy Publishers, and author of several reference works (most published by Mirage Press, Ltd.), chairman of several Balticons, co-founder of the Baltimore Science Fiction Society, director of the Compton Crook Award for Best First Novel, and former member of several other SF clubs, and other activity too numerous and varied to mention. Collapsed at home the evening of Dec. 30th, probably a complication from his diagnosis earlier that month of pancreatic cancer. Pronounced DOA at Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, MD.
